Positions
Command
Commanding Officer (a.k.a. Captain)
He or she is in charge of the sim and ship. The Captain makes all final
decisions regarding the sim, and is responsible for the crew.
The sim responsibilities are keeping the Roster updated, and sending
out a brief every week. He or she needs to have a storyline ready each
week, and find something for everyone to do. If the sim is lacking in
attendance or crew, then it is the Captain's responsibility to talk to
those who are not making it and/or recruit for the ship. He or she
should encourage the crew to write logs.
In character, the Captain is responsible for the safety of the crew and
ship. He or she is to read all reports written by the crew. (This also
applies out of character if reports are written.) The Commanding
Officer is expected to uphold the prime directive.
A good Captain will listen to the suggestions of the crew and work closely with the First and Second Officer.
First Officer (a.k.a. Executive Officer)
Aside from the Commanding Officer, this person is the highest ranked
officer. He or she is to perform the duties the Captain asks for. If
the captain is unable to make it to a sim, the First Officer will be in
charge. During the sim he is to help the captain in finding the crew
something to do. He or she may be asked to role-play a secondary
character during the sim. If someone arrives to the sim late, the First
Officer should instant message him or her and inform him of what is
going on. If the Captain is kicked offline, then the First Officer
keeps record of the sim until the Captain returns. He or she is to help
the Captain with storylines.
In character (s)he is also responsible for the safety of the captain
and crew. He or she is expected to be in charge of most away teams and
is in charge of the work schedules. The First Officer gives suggestions
and ideas to the Captain. He or she may have a secondary job.
Second Officer (Third in Command)
It is the job of the Second Officer to do what the First Officer cannot
do. If the First Officer is not there then he or she will resume the
responsibilities. He must also help in finding the crew something to do
and also may be asked to role-play a secondary character during the
sim. He will have a secondary job, usually a department head.
Security/Tactical
Chief Security/Tactical Officer
As a Tactical Officer it is his or her job to ensure the ship is ready
to go to ship to ship battle, and that weapons and shields are in full
operation. If it is not he is to report this to the Captain or First
Officer. He or she is to keep track of near vessels, especially if they
may be hostile.
As a Security Officer it is his job to ensure safety inside the ship.
He or she is to make sure all brigs are functional and weapons lockers
are fully loaded. If the ship has intruders he or she will deal with
them or assign someone to do so.
It is the job of the Chief Sec/Tac Officer to find something for his assistants to do.
Assistant Chief Security/Tactical Officer
He or she reports to the Chief Sec/Tac Officer, and if needed will take
over his or her job. If during a battle the Chief Sec/Tac Officer is at
tactical, the Assistant Chief will take measure to ensure the inside of
the ship stays safe.
Assistant Security/Tactical Officer
Reports to the Chief Security/Tactical Officer. He or she may have to
take over tactical if the Chief and Assistant Chief cannot. He or she
will follow orders of the Chief or Assistant Chief.
Note: At least one Security Officer must be on every away team.
Science
Chief Science Officer
Takes scientific scans of planets, space anomalies, species, and the
unknown. He or she is educated in the sciences. He or she is to give
their findings to the Captain or First Officer. For every old find he
or she should go through the ship's database and compare the finding
with the others. For every new find he or she should go though the
database to make sure it is indeed new, and check if there is anything
similar. The Science Officer may be expected to make logical
conclusions and theories.
The Chief Science Officer has his or her own lab. He or she is also in charge of all science probes.
He or she is expected to give jobs to his or her assistants.
Assistant Chief Science Officer
Reports to the Chief Science Officer, he or she may also have to take
over his or her duties. He or she may be asked to look through history
to compare it to whatever the ship has found.
Assistant Science Officer
Reports to the Chief Science Officer, and given orders by either the
Chief or Assistant Chief. He or she may be asked to work with another
officer on a project.
Operations and Helm
Operations Officer
The Operations Officer keeps the Captain or First Officer informed of
ship's status (damage, malfunctions, etc.), especially during a battle.
He or she may also receive causality reports from Sickbay. He or she is
also the Communications Officer in opening hails or detecting distress
signals or any communication sent to the ship. He or she may be asked
to beam people up or down, but that job is usually left up to the
Transporter Chief. If Helm is not there, then the Operations Officer
will be expected to take helm along with his or her current duties.
Assistant Operations Officer
If the Operations Officer is not there, this person will take over his or her duties..
Helm Officer
This person is in charge of flying the ship, which is especially
important during battle. He or she will often plot the course and pick
speed for the ship's travel to a designation or in its exploration.
He or she may also be asked to pilot a shuttlecraft, and is expected to help in ensuring the maintenance of the shuttles.
If the Operations Officer is not there, then the Helm Officer will take over his or her duties.
Assistant Helm Officer
If the Helm Officer is not there, this person will take over his or her
duties. An Assistant Helm Officer should have a secondary job.
Engineering
Chief Engineer
He or she is in charge of maintenance and repair of the ship. This
includes keeping the warp and impulse drives going, giving power where
needed, making sure the EMH is functioning, and making any repairs when
and where needed. He or she can make about any repair given enough
time. The Chief Eng. may be asked to examine unknown technology, and
perhaps even find use for it.
While he or she is most often found in Engineering, he or she may be at
the engineering console on the bridge. The Chief Eng. should find
repairs or needed maintenance for his or her assistants to do.
Assistant Chief Engineer
The Assistant Chief will take over Engineer if the Chief is unable to
or is on the bridge. He or she reports to the Chief Engineer, and
should have nearly the same knowledge in engineering as the Chief does.
Assistant Engineer
While he or she is expected to know about Engineering, he or she may
not know as much as the Chief or Assistant Chief. The Assistant reports
to the CEng or sometimes the Assistant CEng.
Medical
Chief Medical Officer
While the Chief Medical Officer is a doctor who watches over the
physical and mental health of a patient, he or she is mostly in
responsible for the physical health. He or she is expected to either
know how or find a way to cure all injures, sicknesses, etc. He or she
is also expected to make sure the sickbay is fully equipped with
medicine, supplies, and ensure everything is working properly. The
Chief Medical Officer will also perform routine checks up to ensure the
patient's health.
The Chief Medical Officer has his or own office. It is his or her job to find tasks for his or her assistants.
If the patient's problem is psychological, the patient will be referred to the Counselor.
Assistant Chief Medical Officer
The Assistant Chief Medical Officer is also a doctor and helps the CMO
whenever needed. He or she may have to take over the duties if the
Chief Medical Officer cannot do them. The Assistant Chief should be
just as or nearly as knowledgeable as the Chief.
Assistant Medical Officer
The Assistant Medical Officer may be a doctor or nurse, perhaps still
in training. He or she will report the Chief Medical Officer for work.
Counselor
He or she is in charge of the mental health of the crew. The Counselor
is to advise and provide guidance to crew members. Like the Chief
Medical Officer, the Counselor may also perform regular check ups on
the crew to ensure good mental health. If (s)he is telepathic, the
Counselor may be called to the bridge to advise in certain situations.
The Counselor may have a secondary job as an Assistant Medical Officer
or even Chief Medical Officer.
